Are you having a Kentucky Derby party? Do you like to serve ooey, gooey sliders that everyone will rave about? Get your napkins ready! Let me introduce you to Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders!

Stack of Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders

These sliders are so divine, I can’t even!

Sometimes I wish I could just fit more into my belly!

You’re going to fall in love with the flavor of these sliders, just like I did.

I served these the other night to some friends. They all took a bite and looked at me with big eyes. I thought maybe something had gone wrong with the sliders but all my friends said how absolutely delish they were. The big-eyed looks were because the flavors were soooo goood! Everyone stuffed themselves with these sliders, including me.

When you bite into this slider, you can actually taste all the flavors even down to the mayonnaise at the bottom. The top of the slider is a little crunchy from the brown sugar and butter sauce that’s poured on top. The melty cheese, bacon, tomato and turkey all taste so yummy together. Your eyes may get bigger on the first bite too from pure bliss!

These sliders have a sweetness to them from the brown sugar and butter sauce that is drizzled over the top and Hawaiian rolls used for the sliders. Using Hawaiian sweet rolls is a must. I layer turkey, tomatoes, bacon and two cheeses on the Hawaiian rolls. I’m showing them here in phases.

Making Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders in phases

I use tomato slices on these sliders. You can substitute pimento for a little more authenticity.

A Little Snipit of History:

The Kentucky Hot Brown was originally created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, by Fred K. Schmidt in 1926. 1926! And it’s still a fantastic sandwich today. It’s usually served as an open face sandwich with cheese sauce.

I wanted to make sliders so I made some adjustments to the original sandwich which resulted in these ooey, gooey, super tasty, at least two napkins sliders.

Kentuck Hot Brown Sliders

I love watching the Kentucky Derby. Now I’ll be watching the Derby while eating Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders and washing them down with my Derby Day Mint Juleps

These are great for any party. Remember to serve with a lot of napkins!

Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders

Ingredients

  • 1 package 12 count Hawaiian sweet rolls halved horizontially
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 12 slices deli turkey
  • 12 slices thick bacon cooked
  • 1 ½ cups sharp white cheddar shredded
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 3 medium tomatoes sliced
  • ½ cup butter cubed

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons yellow onion minced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a 9 ½ by 11 baking pan or glass dish, lay the bottoms of the rolls down. Spread the bottoms of the rolls with a light coating of mayonnaise.
  • Lay one piece of turkey on each roll. You may have to fold the piece of deli turkey in half so it fits on the roll.
  • Cut each piece of bacon in half. Crisscross 2 halves on top of the turkey on each roll. Add 1 slice of tomato on top of the bacon.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheese and parmesan cheese over all the tomato slices. Replace the top of the rolls.
  • In a small sauce pan, add the butter and melt over medium heat.
  • Add the onion and cook until 1 minute. Stir in the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder. Stir until brown sugar is dissolved.
  • Pour brown sugar butter sauce over the sliders.
  • Pop in the preheated oven and bake, uncovered for 25 minutes. At 20 minutes into the cooking time you notice the tops of the rolls getting a little to dark, cover them with foil and finish baking them.
  • Remove from oven and serve. Enjoy!
