If you like a little kick to your cocktail, try these Margaritas with Jalapeno Infused Tequila.

I’ve had margaritas on my mind. It’s one of my favorite drinky-poos. I wanted to turn them up a notch and add a little heat, hence this recipe.

I used a small pitcher to infuse tequila with jalapenos. The spiciness can be controlled by how long the jalapenos infuses with the tequila. Let the mixture sit for over an hour. Woo doggie! Was it ever spicy on that first sip! I coughed and sputtered a little…and then went in for another sip. A little light coughing. By the third sip I was used to the spiciness.

I don’t know if you want to subject yourself to the spicier margaritas like me, so if you want less spicy, only leave the jalapeno in the tequila for about 15 minutes.

Two Jalapeno Margaritas

Ingredients for Margaritas with Jalapeno Infused Tequila

  • Tequila
  • Jalapenos
  • Sugar, for the simple syrup
  • Water, for the simple syrup
  • Course Salt
  • Limes

How to Make Margaritas with Jalapeno Infused Tequila

1. In a small picture, add sliced jalapenos and tequila. Let sit for at least 15 minutes up. The longer the jalapenos infuse with the tequila, the spicier the tequila will be.

2. Make simple syrup by combining sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes or longer.

3. Strain the tequila so there are no jalapeno pieces in the tequila.

4. Add triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup to the jalapeno infused tequila and stir until well combined.

5. Pour a small pile of course salt onto a plate.

6. Rub a lime around the rim of a glass in which you want to serve the margarita.

7. Dip that glass rim into the course salt on the plate.

8. Fill the glass with 3/4 cups of ice.

9. Pour the Margaritas with Jalapeno Infused Tequila mixture over the ice into the glass.

10. Serve with lime wedges and a smile!

Note

I use a good tequila for all my margarita recipes. It makes a substantial difference in the way they taste AND how you feel after drinking one. Please get the good stuff for your margaritas!

Jalapeno Margarita

I am a huge fan of margaritas. I will be posting more margarita recipes as time goes by. For now, try this awesome recipe and let me know how you like it!

Margaritas with Jalapeno Infused Tequila

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup tequila
  • ½ jalapeno pepper sliced, plus extra slices for garnish
  • ¼ cup triple sec
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice plus lime slices for garnish and the rim of salt
  • ¼ cup simple syrup store bought or homemade (recipe below)
  • Course salt for the rim optional
  • crushed ice for serving

For the simple syrup (this makes more than you need for this recipe):

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  • Pour the tequila into a mixing glass or small pitcher. Add the sliced jalapeno. Set aside and let infuse at room temp for 15 minutes. If you want a spicier margarita, let the jalapeno sit in the tequila for longer. I’ve let the jalapeno sit the tequila for over an hour for a very spicy margarita.
  • For the Simple Syrup: in a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Chill in the fridge until ready to use. Any extra simple syrup not used for making this recipe can be stored in the fridge for a few weeks.
  • Strain the tequila so there are no jalapeno pieces in the tequila. Add triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup to the jalapeno infused tequila and stir until well combined.
  • If you want to salt the rim of the glasses, rub a lime around the rim of each glass then dip the rims into a plate full of course salt.
  • Fill the glasses ¾ full with crushed ice. Pour the Jalapeno Margarita mixture into glasses. Garnish with a jalapeno slice and serve. Enjoy!
