Life » Travel » Grand Canyon by Helicopter

During this past Memorial Day weekend, I took advantage of the long weekend and went to Las Vegas. I meant to post about an incredible helicopter tour I took to the Grand Canyon when I was there in a timely fashion but for one reason or another, it just didn’t happen. I’m posting about it now. Better late than never, I say!

I had not been to Vegas in years! I was looking forward to seeing some shows, having some great food, shopping and just in general, relaxing. The one big adventure I was very excited about was taking a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. I had never been to the Grand Canyon but it was on my bucket list. When I started researching the tours leaving from Vegas to the Grand Canyon, I realized a tour by bus would be an all day thing. I really didn’t want to sit on a bus for most of the day. I was feeling a little discouraged until I saw there was helicopter tours as well. Helicopter tours! I had never taken a helicopter flight but it was another thing on my bucket list. It was definitely more expensive but I decided to splurge. I had set aside some money for gambling but knowing that I would more than likely lose the money at the slots, I booked the Grand Canyon All American Helicopter Tour instead. I was knocking two things off my bucket list! Woot!

I loved, loved, loved going on the helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon. For me, it was so worth the cost and worth missing out losing money playing the slots. The tour took less time than a bus tours and I got to ride in a helicopter that dipped down into the canyon. As part of the tour, they served lunch and champagne on a bluff 3,200 feet below the rim of canyon under a shady picnic area….ummm…Really Cool!

On the way out to the picnic spot in the canyon, we flew close to the Hoover Dam. Luckily, I was sitting in the front of the helicopter for this really cool birds eye view of the dam. It was an unexpected surprise. I didn’t realize that flying near the dam was part of the tour because I was so focused on seeing the Grand Canyon. I’m not sure how I missed the part about the Hoover Dam in the description but I did.

The whole experience was amazing. I never thought I’d see the Grand Canyon by helicopter. It was the best! OH, I almost forgot to mention that as part of the tour they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel by limousine. I felt fancy.

On the way back to the airport, we flew over the Las Vegas strip. It was a great way to end the flight. I did the helicopter tour on the first day I was in Vegas. The rest of my time was spent people watching, going to shows, shopping, eating, drinking and relaxing. Although I had a fun time in Las Vegas, seeing the Grand Canyon by helicopter was definitely the highlight of my long weekend excursion. I’ll never forget my Grand Canyon helicopter touring experience. ?
